DAILY ARCHIVE: David Iacovazzi-Pau

Wed 16 Apr

Painter David Iacovazzi-Pau views his work as a visual diary in which he dedicated himself to producing portraits of family, friends, and people he encounters in everyday life.

His paintings reveal various aspects of the sitter through an analytical perspective reminiscent of the later work of photographer Richard Avedon or the oversize paintings of Chuck Close, yet Iacovazzi-Pau injects enough warmth to avoid the relentlessness of their work in favor of something more compassionate.

“My aim is to portray idiosyncrasies and evoke the mood of the subject in order for the portrait to have an accurate likeness and affect,” he says.

Iacovazzi-Pau was born in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, where he attended the Centre Académique des Arts. He immigrated to the United States in 1997, and studied art at Indiana University Southeast. His paintings have been exhibited in group and solo shows both nationally and internationally. Earlier this year, Iacovazzi-Pau was a finalist in the 25th Annual Juried Show at the Contemporary Arts Center in Las Vegas.
