Gibbs Rounsavall describes his motivation to make art as an, “inner necessity,” and his intention is that the viewer gain a sense of that drive to create when they view the piece. Art IS a profound tool for communication.
“Through my studies of pattern, manmade and nature-based, I gain a understanding of myself, as well as the surrounding world on both a physical and spiritual plane”, explains the artist in his statement, yet, for all of his preoccupation on pattern, there are precious few corners in Rounsavall’s work, for he also seems enraptured by the circle; no breaks in the line, just a continuous flow of visual energy with no discernable beginning or end.
Rounsavall will open an exhibit of new work, Speed, at the Revelry Boutique Gallery in Louisville on Saturday, November 7, with a reception that evening from 7-10pm. The show runs through December 2, 2015.
“The Speed series began as a peripheral project while I worked more intently on a larger graphite series. It was intended to be a quick, self- satisfying color exercise, but I found myself immediately engrossed in the possibilities and efficiency of these small studies. Most recently, their potential became more evident, serving as inspiration for an 800 square foot mural completed in the Shelby Park neighborhood in Louisville, KY.” – Gibbs Rounsavall
