Fiber artist Pamela Mattei sells hand-dyed silk scarves and other accessories through her company, DyeSigns By Pamela.
Mattei typically applies three or four different colors of dye to each piece, when the dyes overlap and amalgamate, additional secondary and tertiary colors form creating an alluring spectrum of colors. For her, dyeing is both an art and science.
“I am on a mission to make the world a more colorful place, one scarf at a time,” the artist explains. “Give me a pencil and a piece of paper and tell me to draw something and I shut down. Give me some dye and a piece of fabric and I am on cloud nine!”
In 2009, Mattei received an Individual Artist Professional Development Grant from the Kentucky Arts Council. Her work can be found locally at Gallery Janjobe, Copper Moon Gallery in downtown New Albany, and at Gadabout Gallery & Artisan Shoppe near the foot of the Big Four Bridge in Jeffersonville. Mattei recently launched the new scarf line, The Metamorphosis Collection, nationally.
