We had a wonderful time bringing "Water Tower - Form & Function" to Brandeis Elementary this fall through a partnership between LVA and the Louisville Water Company made possible through Louisville Water Foundation. By breaking into small groups to create their very own water tower design, students increased their awareness of the form and function of a water tower and learned all about the different architectural elements involved in the facade. Even more importantly, students strengthened their critical thinking skills, learned new creative problem-solving techniques and worked collaboratively towards a common goal! We were incredibly impressed with the work they created, and were even more impressed with their ability to discuss their artwork and process!
We loved our snapchat story so much we decided to share it with you too!
Archie Borders discussed local film and the Louisville Film Commission with us on this week's PUBLIC! Tune in each Thursday at 10am on 97.1 WXOX-FM or artxfm.com.

Open Studio Weekend 2016 might have been the most successful year yet! Over 227 visitors went to the 67 participating studios— totaling over 4,000 studio visits in all!

Eighth-grade visual art students at Western Middle School are hard at work doing traditional shibori dyeing— just one component of their upcoming immersive art installation at the Kentucky Center for Broadway Across America's production of "The Little Mermaid"!
We've had a great time working with Kosair Kids® through Kosair Charities and Fund for the Arts to bring a 28-week art therapy program as part of a full school year initiative with Home of the Innocents! During this class visit, students were finishing up their Inside Out Boxes with Lori Kelley. They decorated the outside of the boxes as a representation of the self they show to the world and the inside of the boxes as their inner self. Students made the boxes very personal— illustrating their hopes, dreams, and fears. A couple students wanted to share their work with the camera, others chose to keep it private.
Students who finished their boxes worked on creating "quote trees" with their own quotes and tree designs.
Tom Pfannerstill and Caroline Waite were our guests on PUBLIC November 10. They are exhibiting together at Galerie Hertz through December 31. Tune in each to PUBLIC 10am each Thursday on 97.1WXOX-FM, or stream on ARTXFM.com

I honestly do not recall. LVA seems to be woven into the fabric of the visual arts in Louisville. I probably joined as a function of donating to a fundraiser.
When did you first know that art was going to be a big part of your life?
I think this question has it backwards. Children seem to have an innate desire to create images. Like most kids, I could amuse myself endlessly by drawing. Those drawings evolved from scribbles to animals to cars to figures to portraits and back to scribbles. At some point, probably in high school, I realized that art was never going to stop being a big part of my life.
What does LVA add to your life?
So many things: a framework for collaborative projects; opportunities to interact with patrons and the public (Open Studio Weekend!); the ability to give back through fundraising efforts that support worthy art projects (Open Studio Weekend!); and generally a feeling of being part of a larger community.
How else are you involved in the community?
I do my part to uphold the image of us as a bourbon soaked people. And Forecastle.
Describe your perfect Sunday afternoon.
Being abducted by a race of space aliens who are fascinated by human creativity, and to study the phenomena, they put me in a clean well-lighted space with unlimited food and art supplies to observe me making all the art I possibly can until they get enough data for their study at which point they time warp me back to where and when I was. And then I get up, have a cup of coffee and work on the NYT crossword puzzle.
Who is your favorite local artist?
Bobby Benjamin
Where would you like to see Louisville 10 years from now?
38°13.52′N 85°44.5′W
What neighborhood do you live in? What are some of your favorite things about it?
Downtown. I love the proximity to the bike trails along the river, Waterfront Park and NULU.
What three items would you bring to a desert island?
A fire extinguisher, a brick on a string, and some big warm blankets.
What advice would you give your past self if you could?
Thanks to everyone who came out to last night's UnMasked fundraiser! We were so glad to share that Luckett & Farley will be our architects and celebrate with an amazing light show by Spettra and delicious pizza from MozzaPi!
Jacque Parsley & Claudia Hammer were in the studio this week. Both are Open Studio Weekend participants (coming Nov. 5-6). Morgan Keator was also with us to talk about his father, David Keator. There will be a memorial service and a silent auction of some of David's paintings on Nov. 6. Tune in to 97.1 WXOX-LP, or stream on Artxfm.com Thursday from 10-11am.
