HOT SUMMER CITY: Street Photography Exhibition w/ Special Guest Curator Rafael Fuchs

Entry Fee: $25
Exhibition Dates: July 10
Location: 5417 Butler St, Pittsburgh, PA 15201

Vestige Concept Gallery is seeking street photography that captures the essence of urban life in the summertime. Summer is an intense and multifaceted season that brings joy, freedom, and social opportunities. When we think of representing the season through photography we envision intense warmth, deep shadows, and/or depictions of late nights, summer fun, and enjoying being outdoors. We are also interested in work that captures the dark side of summer: oppressive heat; urban blight; and the struggle to keep cool, hustle, and survive. The show will be Special Guest Curated by Rafael Fuchs.

CUT: An International Call for Works Made by Cutting [DEADLINE EXTENDED]
Deadline: June 25, 2021

Entry Fee: $40 for up to FOUR entries submitted. $5 per each additional entry.
Exhibition Dates: August 13- September 10, 2021
Location: Cincinnati, OH
Contact Name: Jason Franz, info@manifestgallery.org
Additional Information: The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit works that address or feature cutting as a primary and dominant, but not necessarily exclusive method of creation. All manner of interpretations and explorations involving the concept or examples of cutting are welcome, including traditional and non-traditional approaches in any media.
Scissors, knife, saw, laser, CNC router, water... these and more may be used to cut materials to form useful, beautiful, or meaningful things, by design and artfulness. To cut is to take a simple action that may, as if by magic, turn one thing into two, many into more—or alternatively to reduce by elimination parts of a whole to achieve a different, better whole. Too many cuts leaves one with only waste. Just the right number result in, perchance, a miracle—art.
ANNUAL CASH AWARD: The annual Manifest Grand Jury Prize will result in the awarding of one significant cash prize ($2500) to a single work selected as the 'best of the entire season’.

13th Annual NUDE: Exploring the Uncovered Human Form in Current Art [DEADLINE EXTENDED]
Deadline: June 26, 2021

Entry Fee: $40 for up to FOUR entries submitted. $5 per each additional entry.
Exhibition Dates: August 13- September 10, 2021
Location: Cincinnati, OH
Contact Name: Jason Franz, info@manifestgallery.org
Additional Information: The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit works in any media, of any style or genre (abstract, conceptual, realistic, etc.), and of any size, for consideration in Manifest's 13th annual NUDE, an international competitive exhibit exploring the uncovered human form in current art.
The human body is a popular subject for many reasons, the most obvious being that it is us. Throughout history (and pre-history) the representation of the human form has been charged with tremendous energy. Whether it be a religious edict that one should not depict the human form—a taboo, or the glorious opposite—a revelation of mastery over form in the crafting of sensuous and life-like physical human beauty, the art of the body has nevertheless moved us through time. Through all the permutations art has experienced across history, work of the body persists.
ANNUAL CASH AWARD: The annual Manifest Grand Jury Prize will result in the awarding of one significant cash prize ($2500) to a single work selected as the 'best of the entire season’.

BLOOM: Call for Works About the Vigor of Nature [DEADLINE EXTENDED]
Deadline: June 27, 2021

Entry Fee: $40 for up to FOUR entries submitted. $5 per each additional entry.
Exhibition Dates: August 13- September 10, 2021
Location: Cincinnati, OH
Contact Name: Jason Franz, info@manifestgallery.org
Additional Information: The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit works of any media or genre (painting, drawing, collage, photography, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, video, and non-traditional art, etc.) using plant life as a source of inspiration and exploration. This theme is very much open to interpretation by each artist.
At one time the world of living things was classified into two simple groups, plants and animals. Botany concerned itself with the study of plants. We are linked to these, our earthly cousins, in so many ways. As a planetary phenomenon we take for granted that to our yin the plants provide the yang. We breathe in oxygen and out carbon dioxide, they absorb carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen. Clearly an elegant arrangement was agreed upon by the forces of the Universe to arrive at such a symbiosis. Whether it be the form of organic plant life, or the concept of its functionality, the implications of its shared existence with humanity, or its clever ability to convert sunlight into food, plant life is as fascinating as it is beautiful. In the context of contemporary society it is interesting to consider what this can mean in the hands of artists.
ANNUAL CASH AWARD: The annual Manifest Grand Jury Prize will result in the awarding of one significant cash prize ($2500) to a single work selected as the 'best of the entire season’.

Submissions can range from the most traditional to the most conceptual, abstract, or experimental, including those which push the boundaries of the common definition of what constitutes ‘painting’.
At some point many generations ago society reached a level where ordinary people could spend a lifetime perfecting their ability to mix and apply paint, in extraordinary ways. To mark Manifest's 10th season the gallery kicked off a permanent biennial project surveying painting as an art form. It was first presented in fall 2013 to inaugurate our expanded gallery. PAINTED 2021 will be the fifth biennial presentation of this international survey of contemporary painting.

AQUACHROME 2021: International Competitive Biennial Exhibit of Contemporary Watercolor
Deadline: July 25, 2021

Entry Fee: $40 for up to FOUR entries submitted. $5 per each additional entry.
Exhibition Dates: September 23- October 22, 2021
Location: Cincinnati, OH
Contact Name: Jason Franz, info@manifestgallery.org
Additional Information: The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit works of contemporary watercolor, gouache, ink wash, or other similar painting media as their primary (but not exclusive) media. Submissions can range from the most traditional to the most conceptual or experimental.
Quite possibly the oldest form of painting, watercolor persists today, defying narrow categorization and broad stereotype. Practiced for centuries in concept development preliminary to finished paintings made in oil or other scale-worthy durable media, watercolor also found favor with botanists, illustrators, and portraitists, and was applied to varied and countless surfaces.
The nature of the media itself represents a delicate and dictatorial transparency, fluidity, and a potential for expressive spontaneity. This not only makes it an ideal vehicle for visual art, but also one of training, intensity, philosophy, and play for any who practice it. Where an artist can easily dominate other painting media, forcing a will through viscous layers into a work of art like taming a wild horse, with watercolor there is dialog, compromise, and undeniable forthrightness. In this way the artist practicing watercolor works with a tiger in the room.
ANNUAL CASH AWARD: The annual Manifest Grand Jury Prize will result in the awarding of one significant cash prize ($2500) to a single work selected as the 'best of the entire season’.

What do these vacant structures say about us as we leave them to decay during a spike in our world's unhoused population? What is the meaning of shelter, and what-or whom-are we abandoning during these unprecedented times?

Abandoned: Time and Place is a juried exhibition open to all levels of photographers, but early entrants and established artists will have their work reviewed for future group and solo exhibitions. To support artists during the COVID-19 crisis, a coalition of national arts grantmakers have come together to create an emergency initiative to offer financial and informational resources to artists across the United States.
Artist Relief will distribute $5,000 grants to artists facing dire financial emergencies due to COVID-19; serve as an ongoing informational resource; and co-launch the COVID-19 Impact Survey for Artists and Creative Workers, designed by Americans for the Arts, to better identify and address the needs of artists.
Please note that the Artist Relief coalition partners will make final eligibility determinations as needed. Learn more by reviewing this FAQ. To apply, click here

Founded in 1909, Louisville Visual Art (LVA) improves lives through visual art education, community outreach, and artist engagement.  Since 1925, we've inspired future generations of creative leaders through Children's Fine Art Classes (CFAC) that currently enroll thousands of students every year.  Our outreach programs span the metro, enriching broadly diverse communities.  From our creative hub in the Portland neighborhood, we encourage artists through the Artebella radio show, Mural Art Program (MAP), Open Studio Weekend, and weekly calls for artists.
