A young person interacts with a tactile mural at Industries for the Blind, in Winston-Salem, NC. Pronounced texture, audio description, sound-producing elements, web-connected content, and other sensory accessible components will likely be part of LVA’s project for Clifton. Support comes from the Kentucky School for the Blind Charitable Foundation, Metro Government, Fund for the Arts, the Woosley Foundation, South Arts, and generous individuals.
LVA and Lead Artist, Liz Richter, are excited to move into the design phase of this initiative, after two helpful listening sessions with community stakeholders.
A public artwork, sensory accessible to the blind and visually impaired, will come to Clifton this spring and summer, ahead of an early October unveiling. Born out of Liz Richter’s experiences as a Clifton resident and teacher at the Kentucky School for the Blind, this community-based project is driven by primary support from the Kentucky School for the Blind Charitable Foundation, and seeks volunteers and collaborators who will help celebrate the history and character of Clifton by contributing to a work that blind and visually impaired people experience through sound, texture, low-vision friendly design, web-hosted elements, and more.
