The Floyd County Carnegie Library Cultural Arts Center is showing G.W. Morrison, Artist: To a Finer Effect, through August 1, 2026, in the Sally Newkirk Gallery. Curated by Albertus Gorman, this exhibition is presented in celebration of Gorman’s forthcoming book, the first on the artist, titled To a Fine Effect: George W Morrison, 1820-1893. G.W. Morrison, Artist: To a Finer Effect features works by 19th-century New Albany artist George W. Morrison, including many highlighted in Gorman’s book.

For twenty-five years, Albertus Gorman has been the self-designated ‘Artist at Exit 0’ and the unofficial artist-in-residence at the Falls of the Ohio State Park in Clarksville, Indiana, across the river from Louisville where the artist calls his home. Though a small state park, this area holds deep significance for life, myth, and American History, which Gorman responds to in the present situations. For Gorman, the Falls of the Ohio River is one of the special places in the world where the location holds perceivable, palpable energy. The compression of time felt while standing on the ancient bedrock of the Ohio River and seeing the contemporary city of Louisville on the near horizon is a dynamic experience of ever-changing environmental effects that attract and sustain a variety of life.
