Michael Coppage speaks with us about his installation Ancestral Memories (The Rotunda of the Ancestors), a series of photographic murals created in partnership with Louisville Visual Art and Mural Arts Philadelphia. Michael Coppage is originally from Chicago, Ill and now resides in Cincinnati Ohio. He studied at Memphis College of Art and obtained a BFA degree with an emphasis in sculpture. He continued his education and obtained an MFA degree from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) with an emphasis in sculpture and mixed media.

In October he unveiled his installation Ancestral Memories (The Rotunda of the Ancestors), a series of photographic murals created in partnership with Louisville Visual Art and Mural Arts Philadelphia. Julie Schweitzer will be exhibiting Fong Choo: An Artistic Journey in Clay at Bourne-Schweitzer Gallery in New Albany beginning Nov. 18, and both artist and gallery director come to talk about in the studio this week. Fong Choo is a Singapore-born American studio potter and teacher who creates diminutive, sculptural porcelain teapots. He is best known for his use of low-fire commercial glazes, firing them to Cone 6 to achieve luscious, jewel-tone effects. He has taught workshops both nationally at art centers around like Penland School of Arts and Crafts, Arrowmont School of art and craft, and internationally in countries like Israel, Canada and most recently in Singapore.

Over the years, he has also received numerous awards for his work at The Smithsonian Craft Show where he was awarded The Excellence in Ceramics Award in Washington DC. Others include Best of Show at the American Craft Exposition in Evanston, ILand The Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show in Philadelphia, PA.

"What is so exciting about looking at a sleeping tiger?"

"Nothing. But if you take a stick and poke at it, you will remember that tiger for the rest of your life!"

This is part of a conversation I once had at the Minnesota Zoo.

In many ways, this parallels my attitude towards clay: it requires poking to awaken it. One must push the limits, test waters, search, prod and explore its many boundaries.

For more than ten years my work has been focused on Miniature Teapots. The teapot form continues to challenge and fascinate me. The work shown in this gallery is the result of over a decade of evolution in color, design and form. I invite you into that place.

I feel blessed to be able to pursue the life of a potter -- especially when it requires poking the sleeping tiger…

SHARON M. SCOTT established ARTxFM in 2011 with the purpose of providing artists and community members access to the airwaves for creative and experimental use. Since that time, has managed the development of ARTxFM from idea into local resource. Streaming live around the world 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the ARTxFM schedule includes music, talk, and experimental programming.

Scott is also an author, artist, and cultural historian. Her premier book Toys and American Culture: An Encyclopedia (2010 Greenwood Press / ABC-CLIO) received outstanding reviews from Booklist, The American Journal of Play, and Lawrence Looks at Books. Her newest book, Low Power FM for Dummies was released during the 2023 Grassroots Radio Conference in Charleston, WV.

Kentucky to the World (KTW) welcomes legendary film animator Carol Wyatt home for an exclusive live program featuring her renowned contributions to the world of animation. but the Louisville native spoke to us first about her career and the upcoming program. Wednesday, November 1 at 6:30 PM, at the Speed Art Museum with a light reception at 5:30 PM. Tickets are $25 per adult and free for students thanks to the support of the Bass Family Foundation.

Prior to the main program, KTW will also hold a special student briefing opportunity with Carol and Brooke at the Speed Cinema for local middle school through university-age students to have an interactive conversation with our distinguished guests. Carol Wyatt is an animation designer, painter, and supervisor with over 35 years of experience in television and film.

She is known for her work on the first four seasons of The Simpsons, as well as Hey Arnold!, Rocko’s Modern Life, Nightmare Ned, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, The Ricky Gervais Show, Over the Garden Wall, Amphibia, Rick and Morty, and many more. She has designed the look for TV series such as Nightmare Ned, Hey Arnold!, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, and Camp Lazlo, while contributing her painting style to animated features and independent films.

Currently, Carol is the Color Supervisor on Rick and Morty and teaching Special Studies in Animation at CSULB.

Rebecca Norton is doing a lot of things: curator for The Common Gallery & co-founder of MaybeItsFate, a member-owned social club and art gallery in Louisville just to name two. Norton is an artist, curator, and educator. She received her BFA from the University of Louisville in 2004 and her MFA from the Art Center College of Design in 2010. Norton's work is included in permanent collections at 21C Hotel Louisville, the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, and the Kentucky Museum at Western Kentucky University. She is the recipient of awards and grants from the Puffin Foundation, 2011, See.me 2013 Painting Category Winner, 2014, M.A. Hadley Fellowship, 2016, the Kentucky Foundation for Women Artist Enrichment Grant, 2019, and the Great Meadows Artist Professional Development Grant, 2019 & 2020. Norton has been a contributing writer for Arts in Bushwick and Abstract Critical. Her lectures and writings have been published on MOCA tv, the Brooklyn Rail, Duke University Scalar publications, and Blacksun Lit. She currently works as an independent curator for The Common Gallery in Louisville Rebecca is co-founder of MaybeItsFate, a member-owned social club and art gallery in Louisville. She lives and works in Kentucky.
