Artists Talk with LVA: August 28, 2025

Director Alyssa Hendricks and producer Michelle Lori from The Chamber Theatre discuss their production of The Harlan Women on Artists Talk with LVA on WXOX 97.1 FM at 10 a.m.

Michelle Lori is a Theatre professional engaged in acting, directing, playwriting and arts administration for The Chamber Theatre, Inc. a Kentucky nonprofit theatre since 2016. She also works as a theatre professional with other area community and semi-professional theatres. Her past professional experience includes Actors Theatre of Louisville and Presbyterian Church USA.

Alysa Hendricks is a Training, Development, and Quality Manager at Generation Tux, but also once taught theatre in the Oldham County Schools and has been very active with local theatre companies in this area. She attended Arizona State University and the New York Conservatory of Dramatic Arts

The Harlan Women will be performed at Jeffersonville's NoCo Arts & Cultural District in Jeffersonville on September 4, 5, and 6 and at the green space outside Louisville Visual Art on September 11, 12, and 13. All shows begin at 7 p.m. Get tickets at thechambertheatre.org

Artists Talk with LVA: July 17, 2025

Jessica, Claire, & Lindsey

Curator Lindsey Cummins cut the ribbon on her CPI Fellowship project, "What We Need is Here: Finding Hope in Gathering Together in Places We Call Home", and she joins us with two of the participating artists, Jessica Chao & Claire Krüeger. Lindsey Cummins (she/her) is a Louisville-based Independent Curator, Collections Manager, & Community Arts Organizer. As the Founder of AVID Collectors, she strives to impact local arts communities by uplifting artists, patrons, and private collections. Lindsey is the Curator & Collections Manager of the SNAP Art Collection Lindsey received her education at Louisville’s Hite Art Institute with a degree in Studio Art, Art History, and Modern Culture. She currently serves on the Board of the Portland Museum, the SNAP Art Foundation, and is a member of the International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art. 

Jessica Chao is a native to New Mexico and currently based in Louisville, Kentucky, earned a Bachelors in studio arts at UNM with a focus on lithography, sculpture, and painting. Jessica presented work at the Harwood Art Center, 516 Art, the New Mexico Cancer Center Foundation Gallery where she received “Curator’s Choice” presented by Regina Held, a field mural designed with the Bosque biologist team at Valle De Oro National Wildlife Refuge, and a large-scale art installation at the the National Hispanic Cultural Center Museum as an homage to her Chinese and Korean heritage. She has presented lithographs at the Chicago Art Department, and featured at Louisville Visual Art and Carbon Copy Gallery in Kentucky.   

Claire Krüeger received an MFA in Photography & Film from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2013. In 2021, she was a COLLIDER Artist-in-Residence at Louisville Free Public Library, and in 2024 was an Artist-in-Residence at Bernheim Forest in Clermont, Kentucky. Krüeger runs Take Shape Artlab, a set of creative programs designed to boost growth, problem solving, creative thinking, and collaboration through hands-on art making. Krüeger is the Creative Director of Spidertown, a collaborative zine project with Sean Rose.

Anne Borders is a Louisville-based artist who has exhibited at LVA, KMAC, and other venues. She is a 2024 Curate Purchase Inspire Fellow with LVA, and her curatorial project, "Pathways to Presence," was unveiled last Saturday, May 24, at The Earth and Spirit Center. It features installations by Casey Dressel, Matt Weir, & Jessica Beels.

Dr. Angela Hagan & Dr. Debra Clary

Debra Clary will be the keynote speaker at the LVA Centennial Luncheon on May 9. She and LVA Director Angela Hagan join us this week to discuss the power of education. Tune in to WXOX 97.1 FM / Artxfm.com each Thursday at 10 am to hear Artists Talk with LVA.

Dr. Debra Clary is an executive with three decades of leadership experience with prominent companies such as Frito-Lay, Coca-Cola, Jack Daniel’s, and Humana. Her broad-based functional expertise spans from global operations & marketing, strategy development, human resources, to corporate board and investor relations.

Debra has translated her message into the theatrical realm as a testament to her creativity and passion. She wrote and performed the play 'A Curious Woman' off-Broadway in 2023, showcasing her ability to communicate and engage through multiple mediums.

LVA Executive Director Dr. Angela Hagan grew up in southeastern Illinois, but claims Louisville as her adopted hometown after moving here in 1997. Her academic and career path, which has never taken her far from the Ohio River Valley, has related to the ecosystem supporting healthy, vibrant, thriving communities.

 For over a decade, she worked in leadership functions including development, marketing and communications, and community engagement for nonprofit organizations focused on affordable and fair housing, education, youth development, and art (KMAC Museum) before spending a decade at Louisville-based Fortune 60 health plan Humana, where she led functions and teams in member engagement and community health strategy and insights.

Artists Talk with LVA: March 20, 2025

The 2025 LVA Honors will recognize Annette Cable and Dr. Jabani Bennett and both joined us this week live in the studio. Tune in to WXOX 97.1 FM/Artxfm.com each Thursday at 10 am to hear Artists Talk with LVA.

Annette Cable (2025 Art Educator) grew up in the country outside of Columbus, Ohio and graduated from the Columbus College of Art and Design. As an illustrator, she has worked for commercial clients nationwide, including having illustrated 20 children’s picture books. She has worked for LVA for many years and has been a CFAC teacher, an Open Doors teacher, and a Summer Camp coordinator and teacher. She has been the LVA Education Director since 2016.

Her non-profit experience includes her work with many local museums and historic landmarks, including the Portland Museum for the past 25 years. From her drawing board and computer screen creating book illustrations to large murals, art classrooms, and community centers, creativity, community, and education encompass her teaching philosophy. 

Dr. Jabani Bennett (2025 Community Impact) served as the first Black woman director of the Women’s Center at the University of Louisville and as a student in 2007 was the student events coordinator at the center and led one of the few community-wide celebrations for LGBTQIA women on campus.

Dr. Bennett has shaped and provided oversight over numerous creative and inclusive learning and engagement programs for diverse learners across their lifespans. Her career as an award-winning arts educator in New York City and Louisville public schools informs her current projects in social justice, cultural equity planning, and empowering self-identified femmes and feminine-presenting women through the arts. 

In October 2024 through January 2025, The Kentucky Center for African American Heritage hosted her solo exhibition, And Say Hi To Your Mother: 30 Portraits of Black Women Culture Leaders.
