Artists Talk with LVA: June 12, 2025

The 2025 art[squared] Online Auction to benefit Louisville Visual Art is ALMOST HERE! Featured artists Shayne Hull, Tomisha Lovelry-Allen, & Douglas. Miller were in the studio this week. Tune in to WXOX 97.1 FM/Artx.com each Thursday at 10 am to hear Artists Talk with LVA.

Douglas Miller is a professional artist whose drawings are exhibited regionally and in galleries across the United States. Among other awards, he has received the Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowship from the KY Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. Additionally, Douglas does freelance illustrations as well as private and corporate commissions. His artwork is in the collection of the Evansville Museum of Arts and Science, the University of Louisville, the Speed School of Engineering, and numerous private collections around the world. Douglas lives and works in Louisville, Kentucky.

Tomisha Lovely-Allen is a self-taught artist from Louisville, KY.  She has been a passionate creator for as long as she can remember.  She earned a full scholarship at Northern Kentucky University and graduated with a Bachelor of Accounting and an Associate in Business Administration in 1998 and earned a Certified Public Accountant license in 2002. 

Tomisha has had the privilege of participating in art shows at the Portland Museum, Wayside Expressions Gallery, Maker’s Crucible, Kore Gallery, Roots 101 Museum (curated by Ashley Cathey), and most recently at the Arts Center of the Bluegrass. She also was chosen to illustrate a historic Kentuckian woman in the “Bluegrass Bold” children’s book project along with 35 other female artist, exhibit at the Arts Center of the Bluegrass Show  “The Art of Being Black: Conversations and Experience,” and be grant recipient to the Fund for the Arts '“Black Artist Grant”. 

Shayne Hull is a Louisville-based painter and sculptor. His work has been shown in over 155 exhibits since 1992, including 25 solo exhibitions, and can be found in the permanent collections of Brown-Forman, 21C Museum, and the Kentucky Arts Council.

Hull has a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Maryland Institute, College of Art; a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Texas A&M University; and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from the University of Louisville.

Among many accolades, Hull was previously named one of Louisville’s Top Visual Artists by Louisville Magazine and has received multiple awards, including the prestigious Al Smith Fellowship.

Artists Talk with LVA: January 11, 2024

Aurora Gallery and Boutique opens a dual art show with Ember Crow’s Inside Show and Kara Renee’s Big Feelings and both artists were live in the studio this week. Tune in to WXOX 97.1 FM/Artxfm.com each week at 10 am to hear Artists Talk with LVA.

Ember Crow is a queer and strange artist based out of Louisville, KY. They make ceramics, assemblages, paintings, sketches, and more that are a mixture of macabre, nature-inspired, and light-hearted. 

Their new exhibit, Inside Show opens Saturday at Aurora Gallery and Boutique

Kara Renee was born in Kentucky in 1986, she is an established painter whose work exhibits attention to detail and captures her subject's emotion, as well as the power of affirmation.

Her new exhibit, Big Feelings, also opens at Aurora on Saturday and there will be a reception for both artists from 6 - 10 pm.

Artists Talk with LVA: August 10, 2023

The 2023 Louisville Fringe Festival will be Aug. 17-27 at LVA so we invited some of the artists in to talk: Yoko Molotov, Zac Hoogendyk, and Roxell Karr of Camera Lucida. Tune in to WXOX 97.1/Artxfm.com each Thursday at 10 am to hear Artists Talk with LVA.

Yoko Molotov- Wilderness Years installation through LVA

Yoko is a Louisville, Kentucky-based multimedia artist specializing in transgressive, gender-fluid comics, art, poetry, and performances. Molotov has exhibited work at Land of Tomorrow in Louisville and Lexington, Sheherazade Gallery in Louisville, and the Carnegie Center for Art and History in New Albany, Indiana. As a musician, Molotov performs in projects such as Harpy, WEEK, and meat mama.

Zac Hoogendyk - Shotz! and DCP plays: Over My Dead Body.

Zac is a Louisville-based actor, writer, and director. He holds an MFA from the Case Western Reserve University and The Cleveland Play House. In the last few years, he climbed Kilimanjaro, ran his first marathon, and got married. One of those was much easier than the other two. He is a proud member of AEA.

Camera Lucida is Jon Silpayamanant & Roxell Karr  - Closing Night

Roxell Karr is a multi-media artist residing in the greater Louisville, KY area. His main focus is on live interactive video projections performed with dancers, musicians, and performance artists. He works with a wide variety of analog, digital, and optical sources to create his artwork.

He has worked with new music ensembles such as Ensemble / Parallax, the Mothership Ensemble, and the November Group; dance troupes such as Blue Moves, the Moving Collective, and members of the Louisville Ballet; theatrical groups Teatro Tercera Llamada, El Delirio, Looking for Lilith and the Kentucky Opera.

Artists Talk with LVA: May 4, 2023

Bob Hower & Meg Higgins opened their exhibit Nothing in Common at Kleinhelter Gallery in New Albany and this week they come to talk about it. Tune in to WXOX 97.1 FM/Artxfm.com each Thursday at 10 am to hear Artists Talk with LVA.

Meg Higgins received two individual artists grants from the Kentucky Foundation for Women and is well known for Facing 50 at Gallerie Hertz, an invitational show where she challenged 50 artists and writers to take a fresh look at stereotypes of aging. Meg has taught art history as an adjunct professor at Bellarmine College. Also a writer and communications professional, she has produced award-winning films, programs, and communication materials. 

Bob Hower is a Louisville photographer who was born in Boston in 1947. He graduated from Middlebury College in 1968 and studied photography at both MIT and Harvard. He taught photography at Wright State University for four years and is a founding partner of Quadrant, a commercial photography studio located outside Louisville KY. Bob is currently engaged with Ted Wathen and John Nation in photographing the creation of the Parklands of Floyds Fork in Louisville Kentucky.

Imuzi Ryzoncity Thompson is a self-taught artist who was born in Manchester, Jamaica but is now based in Louisville KY. His exhibit, Birth Of An American Beast, is now on view at The Common Gallery at the 1512 Creative Compound.

Autumn McKay Lindsey is a ceramic artist whose newest exhibit, Return to the Beaten Path,is now on view at The Common Gallery at the 1512 Creative Compound.
