Lalana Fedorschak is an artist working primarily in ceramic sculpture. Lalana is a friend of craft and a lover of objects, finding kinship with people who value physical, tactile intelligences and are committed to the analog properties of being alive.

Lalana was born and raised in Prescott, Arizona. They hold a BFA in Ceramics from Northern Arizona University and an MFA in Ceramics from Ohio University. Lalana is currently an Assistant Professor of Art at the University of Louisville and has previously held teaching positions at Vincennes University and Indiana University Southeast. Their work has been widely exhibited in museums, galleries, and artist-run spaces throughout the country.

The Louisville School of Art Reunion Exhibition ran April 19 through May 31, 2026, at Bourne-Schweitzer Gallery in New Albany, Indiana. This interview with Martin Rollins was recorded in Studio B at WXOX 97.1 FM/Artxfm.com to be included in that exhibit.

This Louisville School of Art Reunion celebrates the artists connected through a small but influential art school that existed in the Louisville, Kentucky area from 1909 to 1985. Formally established as the Louisville School of Art (LSA) in 1968, the accredited four-year BFA program offered majors in Ceramics, Metalsmithing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, and Textiles.

Originally located in historic homes near the University of Louisville, where it at times functioned as the university’s art department, LSA moved in 1969 to the Life Insurance Building in Anchorage, Kentucky. After twelve years, the school returned to Louisville, relocating to the historic Cloister, a former Ursuline convent.

The LSA played a major role in shaping Louisville’s arts community. This exhibition features work by artists active during the school’s years in Louisville, Anchorage, and the Cloister.

Elizabeth Foley recently wrapped up her Curate Purchase Inspire Fellowship through LVA, and she will join us this week to discuss her exhibit at St. Vincent DePaul Men’s Shelter. Tune into Artists Talk with LVA each Thursday at 10 am on 97.1 FM/Artxfm.com.

Elizabeth Foley is an artist in Louisville, Kentucky. She is a 2025 Curate Purchase Inspire Fellow with Louisville Visual Art, which has resulted in the exhibit, From Which Your Life Flows, at the St. Vincent de Paul Men’s Shelter. For over 20 years, she has exhibited work regionally; on view at 21c Museum Hotel Lexington, the collection at UK Chandler Medical Center, Macy's Department stores, and Kentucky One Healthcare Network. She is a founding member of the Bluegrass Printmakers and was Executive Director for ten years. She is a member of the Kentucky Crafted Program and is a cohort in the 2017-2018 Hadley Creatives Program.

Ann Klem is a glass artist who uses Kiln-forming and torch-working, but each piece begins with an idea or word, drawings, and design before the glass comes out. Multiple kiln firings with cold-working in between lead to the finished creation. Ann is currently a member of the LVA Board.

Justin Franklin Baldwin is an artist from Atlanta, GA, but he has lived and worked in Louisville, KY, for the last six years.

Artists Talk with LVA: May 28, 2026

The 2026 art[squared] Online Auction Party happens on June 11th, and featured artists Douglas Miller, Uhma Janus, and Drew Scanlon will be in the studio this week. Tune into Artists Talk with LVA each Thursday at 10 am on 97.1 FM/Artxfm.com.

Douglas Miller is a professional artist whose drawings are exhibited regionally and in galleries across the United States. Among other awards, he has received the Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowship from the KY Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. Additionally, Douglas does freelance illustrations as well as private and corporate commissions. His artwork is in the collection of the Evansville Museum of Arts and Science, the University of Louisville, the Speed School of Engineering, and numerous private collections around the world.  He is currently an Assistant Professor of Art at Bellarmine University.

uhma janus is a native of León, Guanajuato, México. Her work deals with the representation of the essence of reality by visualizing its elements as independent and in the dynamic interstitial space that is enlivened through their connection. Such representations are imbued with her interests in the fundamental, in the dynamism of complex systems, and in the disciplines of Geometry, Physics, and Microbiology.

uhma resides in Louisville, Kentucky. She can be found in her studio, writing at a coffee shop, exploring the urban air of Louisville during her walks, in mechanical, dance-like trances when rhythmic music compels her, and, overall, just being human.

Drew Scanlon attended the University of Florida, earned their Bachelor of Arts in Art History & Ceramics Certificate in 2020. After graduating, they spent a 2020-2021 as a Post-Baccalaureate student at West Virginia University. They then spent two years studying at Indiana University Southeast as a Post-Baccalaureate. They worked as the ceramic studio assistant at both IUS and UofL.

Drew just completed the MFA program in Studio Art at the University of Louisville. Additionally, they are an Instructor of Record at the University of Louisville, with experience teaching both Foundation 3D design and Intro to Clay.
